The merger of Air India and Vistara was announced on Tuesday by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tata Sons. As part of the deal, SIA also invested Rs 2,059 crore in Air India. As a result, SIA would hold a 25.1% share in an expanded Air India company that would have a sizable presence in all important market categories. SIA and Tata hope to complete their merger in March 2024, subject to regulatory approval. With its internal financial resources, which were S$17.5 billion as of September 30, 2022, SIA plans to completely fund this investment. Additionally, SIA and Tata have agreed to take part in future capital infusions that may be necessary to finance the expansion and operations of the larger Air India in FY23 and FY24.
